Servicexcellence wishes you a wonderful, happy season to all of you. We hope you had a wonderful time with loved ones and friends and were able to experience just as many new places as we did.
We recently went to Tomo, Dubai in the Raffles Hotel to celebrate a special birthday. Due to the fact that we booked weeks ahead, we had the chance to choose our own table, as well as to pre-order a cake. We were really excited about finally trying Tomo’s specials. We were familiar with the bar and it’s wonderful, view from before.
A few days prior to our booking we received a call from Tomo. The call was regarding an event that Tomo had confirmed with an external vendor for the same evening, starting at 9pm. They, therefore, called in order to ”warn” us about the second booking being potentially louder than expected, which could interfere with our birthday dinner.
We were not particularly excited about a group f 150 guests partying next to us while celebrating on a private occasion, and moved our booking from 8pm to 7pm instead.
The actual visit at Tomo started with drinks at the bar. We were welcomed with a smile, and a happy hour offer featuring house beverages and Japanese drinks. The view was breathtaking, however, see it for yourself…
We already noticed that the service was a bit slow during the beverage service and hoped that it would speed up once we sat down. This was, however, not the case. We are more than familiar with the Japanese way of celebrating food, its careful preparation, and the general Japanese quiescence – this, however, was far beyond ease, the service was simply slow from the start to the end.
Due to the fact that the Japanese set menus were all serviced including fish (and one of our guests did not like raw fish) we had to order a variety of starters instead of being surprised by the chef. We ordered, Edamame, two types of Tempura, salmon sushi and California maki, fried tofu and pork dumplings. The food arrived a la minute and tasted wonderful. We then ordered beef- and chicken Teriyaki mix and Udon (thick) noodles in a spicy curry sauce. The main courses were not too exciting, to be honest. Our recommendation is to keep ordering starters instead.
The birthday cake took quite a while to arrive and so we decided to order a variety of teas and coffees while waiting for it. The cake was a creamy chocolate sponge cake carefully decorated with fresh fruits and a singing candle (which we handed over to the waitress upon our arrival). It was delicious.
The overall experience was nice. We will come back to Tomo one day, and then take a seat on one of their Teppanyaki again, enjoying the view, rice wine and authentic Japanese nibbles.
Thank you, SE
