The Cavendish, Bonnington Hotel, JLT Dubai
Have you been to a wine (or de-gustation) dinner lately? We have visited the Bonnington hotel in Jumeirah Lakes Towers last week, and had the pleasure to spend the evening at the beautiful Cavendish with some friends. On their website they state that “…the restaurant prides itself on serving delicious food with a creative twist that can only be described as the ‘Dubai taste’.
The Cavendish caters for everyone’s preference with an unique fusion of delicious international cuisine and the exotic elements of the Middle East…”, and we can only agree. Not only the food but the great, attentive and personal service is what makes us coming back time and time again.
Last Thursday, as said we met a couple of friends, we visited the restaurant for their “Wine Dinner of the Month”. One can choose between a 3 – course or a 5 – course set menu which features a different theme each month. Last week it was French cuisine paired with French wines (and apparently the food also tasted great for those who prefer juice or tea over alcohol).
Before the dinner however, we went for a drink at the beautiful Healey’s Bar and Terrace, where Venkatesh, the new bar manager welcomed us with his new cocktail creations. It was a great start into the evening. However, as all of us were pretty hungry, we did not stay long and walked down the stairs into the Cavendish at around 9.30 pm.
It was busy, yet had offered a very relaxed and calm atmosphere and looked very inviting when walking down the staircase. Mr. Bernd, the food & beverage manager welcomed us with open arms and joined us for dinner on this occasion. He took us through the different menu options and introduced us to the concept of the wine – degustation (smaller portions or specialties of a region, presented and paired with wines).
All of us ordered the 5 – course menu and soon noticed that we would end up with 7 different courses actually, when one counts the amuse bouche and the pre-dessert as separate courses.
From foie gras to scallops over tender lamb up to crêpe suzette, the culinary team of the Cavendish restaurant offered it all. The quality of the food, as well as the service were amazing. From the waiters, up to the managers and chef Indika, who especially came out to flame our dessert, everyone was super attentive and welcoming.
The service was smooth and despite the fact that we started our dinner quite late, and were carried through 7 courses, we did not feel that we stayed at the restaurant for too long.
All in all we must say, it was an entertaining, qualitatively high and elegant culinary event with great service. We will definitely come back for the next wine dinner, and until then keep our fingers crossed for an Austrian evening next time.
Have a great day,
