Okku – H Hotel, Dubai

Good afternoon to all of you.

We hope you had a great weekend so far.

Where did you go for lunch today? A restaurant on Jumeirah Beach Road, one of the new stand alone restaurants on Sheik Zayed Road or did you stay in and cooked at home? We actually ate at home today, but recently we visited the H Hotel on Sheik Zayed Road and had lunch at Okku. The fine dining restaurant of the five star hotel, which belongs to the Luxury Hotels of the World Association, used to be known as one of the high – end dinner places in Dubai. One these where you meet friends and business partners for a unique Japanese a la carte dining experience in an elegant setting. Recently Okku opened their doors during the day as well, and introduced their business lunch concept. We had the chance to try it out over one of our meetings last week.

The restaurant is located on the first floor of the hotel, where a young, beautiful hostess welcomes you with a smile, asks for your reservation reference and leads you to your table. Once you are seated, one of the waitresses – 9/10 were female – welcomes you again and hands over the a la carte menu to you, introducing the various lunch options available. In contrary to the hostess, the waitress who served us on that day, did not smile once.

We decided to go for the three course meal, with Green Tea and Miso Soup served first, followed by a second starter and a main course of your choice. The service was quick. Drinks were served in minutes, followed by the soup and the starters being served at the same time. When it came to the mains, one arrived after the other one – served a la minute, as industry experts would say.

The food tasted delicious. We ordered Edamame with sea salt, Salmon Carpaccio, Wagyu Beef and Chicken Teriyaki on steamed rice. A perfect match to the efficiency in service and the elegant setting of the restaurant. For those of you, who have been following us for a while, know that we are not chefs and only rate food as per our own preference and taste, but we can only highly recommend Okku to those of you, who like Japanese food as much as we do.

The service however, as efficient as it was, was lacking on attentiveness, passion and did not have this personal touch that we were looking for, when visiting one of Dubai’s hot spots, unfortunately. Nevertheless, the overall experience was good, and we are looking forward to our next visit at H Hotel –  the next time we will come for dinner and infect the service personal at Okku with our smile.

Have a great weekend,

SEB
