Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel, Abu Dhabi

Hello to all of you and greetings from Europe. Enjoying a coffee at the Park Hyatt Vienna, we remembered that we still owe you our latest hotel review. We had the pleasure of checking into the Hyatt Capital Gate, in Abu Dhabi for two days.

The purpose of our visit was another great senior management workshop, titled ‘Innovation and Creativity’.

For those of you who had to chance to visit the Hyatt Capital Gate before, you must agree that the actual title of the workshop and the hotel itself fit together perfectly. For those of you who never had the chance to check in around the area, have a look at our pictures.

Located in the heart of ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre), the Capital Gate hotel mainly caters to business travellers. The Guinness World Records-certified structure inclines a record-breaking 18 degrees.  Capital Gate, also known as the “Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi,” is one of the most recently built sites around the Emirates. The hotel has 198 rooms and suites, a restaurant on the 18th floor, a café on the ground floor, a spa, pool with a pool bar and other recreational areas. The design is luxurious and the  concept modern and unique.

It starts with a welcome by the valet parkers and the concierge team, who accompanies you to the elevators and ends with a bag full of memories and happiness. The front desk you might wonder now? The check in area is located on the 18th floor. Yes, the number 18 is an important element of the overall concept.

We did not have the chance to try out freshly baked pastries or a coffee at Profiterole this time, neither did we have the chance to eat at 18*. We were too busy with our workshop preparation and taking antibiotics, due to the usual air-condition – flew.

We did however, enjoy our time in the beautiful room and have to point out that Hyatt’s concept of catering to their business travellers’ comfort is unique. The desk located in the corner of the room, allowing travellers to face the room while working on the laptop, might be a common way to work at home, however Hyatt is by far the only hotel chain which actually takes this into consideration and made it a standard around the World.

Try to recall all other hotels you checked in before; all desks face the wall, and once you sit down, the TV is on your left and the bed sits in your neck. Hyatt’s design makes working from ‘home’ comfortable. So comfortable that we forgot to pay attention to the actual time we spent working. When we stopped, we realized that it was long after sun set.

We packed up our laptop, took a bath in the huge free standing bathtub and called up the guest service team to ask if it was possible to deliver a small snack to our room, instead of consuming the full board menu in 18*. The lady who attended our phone call said she would ask the Duty Manager and get back to us.

Another 15 minutes later, we were still waiting for her to return the call, we thought it would be wise to follow up ourselves. The same lady answered the phone and told us that it was not possible to deliver room service unless we would agree to be charged an additional fee (for the food). She also said that she would be happy to transfer our call to the Duty Manager if we wanted to raise the concern with him directly. We agreed and waited to be transferred.

The Duty Manager greeted us friendly, asked if we still had fever and assured us that it was not a problem at all to serve our dinner in the room. Confused but relieved at the same time, we thanked him for his hospitality and waited for our dinner surprise.

About 45 minutes later, by then it was 10 pm, a friendly room service staff knocked on our door and served us home-made chips, a brown bread salmon sandwich and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Simple and simply delicious.

Hyatt Capital Gate, hotel Abu Dhabi is strategically located where guests can enjoy the best of both the business and leisure worlds.  A convenient choice of airport hotel in Abu Dhabi, the Capital Gate hotel is just a 15-minute limousine or taxi ride away from the Abu Dhabi international airport. The Yas Marina Circuit and also Ferrari World the world’s first multi- sensory theme park of its kind are just a couple of minutes away too. The water park, millions of restaurants and the Grand Mosque a close too.

And the hotel staff? From the check in to the check out, everyone was very professional, friendly and made us feel very special. Taking care of guests, making sure everyone feels comfortable and serving great food is what we call the ‘Hyatt Extra Mile’.

Thank you for your hospitality – we hope to be back soon,
