How many stars does 5* service require?

To be honest I used to be a great fan of The Address Downtown, Dubai.

The locations is stunning and the place is very nicely designed. Sipping a nice glass of chilled white wine or a freshly mixed Mojito, while overlooking Dubai Fountain, is a must for all tourists as well as for us Expats.

But the whole mood and atmosphere can be spoiled within seconds.. actually as soon as you “seat yourself” and the first service staff approached your table.

No smile, no greeting, taking your order with zero eye contact….? 5*service – well I guess not even close to it.

You have the feeling that you are bothering the waiters when you order, which can easily let you forget about the great place, Dubai Fountain and the cool vibes in the background. All you think is: “I’m sorry that I have bothered you and ordered another drink!”

Anyways, we still return when we have visitors from all over the world, to enjoy drinks while fountains of water dance along to Michael Jackson and Celine Dion – like last week Thursday…

We were a group of 6-9 people and as none greeted or seated us, we looked for a place ourselves.

Waited for about 15 minutes until a waiter came to actually bring a menu or take our orders. Well some things never change I guess. Considering how many times I have seen this fountain, waiting for drinks comes a long, like “My heart will go on”…

Some of us ordered cocktails, some shared a bottle of Chardonnay. Drinks were served after 10 minutes already, however, our food orders never arrived.

“Can I have another Gin&Tonic please?”


“No actually I had Bombay before.”

“Aha, ja”

And he stormed off again, without asking anyone else for a drink. He forgot my straw I have ordered two times, and once he finally returned with the drinks, and one of my friends ordered another drink as well, the waiter looked at him, top to down and just said in a very floppy way: “No, that was last order.”

Well we have never been informed about last order, and never asked for a receipt too. But bill was presented and it took quite a while to persuade the kind waiter, to walk over the 10meters to the bar, ask for another two drinks, and return to our table… The picture says it all: SERVICE WITH A SMILE ???

Not only the drinks took forever and seemed to be a hassle, also the ashtray was not emptied once. Again, see the picture!

More than disgraceful, and not 5* at all!

A shame for such a great venue.
