Centro Rotana, Abu Dhabi
Good day to all of you! We hope you are doing well and had a great and successful week so far. We are in Abu Dhabi and thought of sharing a couple of our most recent hotel experiences with you.
Our last stay in Abu Dhabi was at the Centro Rotana, nearby Al Wahda Mall, in the heart of the city. Checking in late night, we were tired and hoped for a fast and smooth check-in. The lady at the reception however was not able to find the reservation in the first place and then took about 15 minutes to take copies of the passport and visa, until she handed over the keys. As there was no “bell-boy”- service available, she then pointed towards the elevator and said: “We do not offer any assistance when it comes to taking your luggage up to the room, but there are the elevators. Have a nice stay.”
Rather disappointed but glad to have an early night, we did not mind too much and took up the luggage to our room. The room itself was cozy. It was a small standard room we had booked for the entire week and was more than enough for one person to relax and unwind after a long working day.
As we were hungry, we decided to order something from the “room service menu”. All we found were breaded chicken pieces with fries, as the fish and chips we initially aimed for were not available and other dishes on the menu did not sound too appealing. Once the lady on the phone reconfirmed our order and inform us that it would take approximately 30 minutes for the food to arrive, she further-on mentioned that she would have to charge 10 AED extra for room service delivery. Confused but hungry we agreed to the additional delivery charge and asked for the food to be sent to our room. While waiting for the food, we had a closer look at the menu again and discovered the small prints – room delivery, 10 AED.
The food was as expected, a little bit better than KFC however, as simple as it sounded – chicken and fries. On the next day we decided to have a decent dinner at the hotel’s all day dining restaurant. We were the only guests in the entire restaurant, the level of service however did not increase or was more attentive than before at any other occasion.
The food was alright and did it’s job. All in all the entire hotel was just about alright to be honest. The service staff at the reception as well as in the bar and the restaurant was neither friendly nor really attentive. One night we decided to take our laptop to the bar, C.Mondo, and prepare some power point slides for the next days of training. We took a seat at the bar and could overhear a conversation from one bar tender who served a fellow colleague from another Rotana property (… we posted the conversation on our Facebook page).
The five days stay at the Centro Rotana did not meet our expectations unfortunately. The room was comfortable and the bed was soft enough to have a good rest after a long working day, the front office and food & beverage – service however was lacking in attention to details.
One big plus about the hotel and one positive memory that staid in our minds was and will always be the life guard at the pool. Regardless how hot it was or how many guests he had to attend at the pool, he was always up for a joke or a nice welcoming chat on arrival at the roof top and made us feel welcome everyday.
We wish Centro Rotana and its service staff all the best for the future and hope to come back soon to see a big improvement of their services.
Have a lovely weekend all of you,
