That is what they state about themselves on their website and let me tell you one thing – it is absolutely true!
Like on any other night during the week, a Thursday night at Mahiki’s is a fun, extraordinary experience and service is top!
Arriving there quite late last night (23:20) after visiting “The Foster Laughter Factory” at the Moevenpick Hotel JBR, we were looking for something too eat and a chilled glass of beer. It was too late for their famous, but very strong Thika Puka Puka already.
From far, the gentleman at the entrance saw us approaching, opened the door for us and greeted us with a smile :”Welcome to Mahiki’s. Good evening”
“Can we still eat something, it is already late”, we asked the friendly hostess. “Of course you can. Smoking or non-smoking table for you?”, and she escorted us to our seats, handing over food and beverage menus, wishing us a nice evening.
Our waiter came, took our beverage order and the drinks were served under 2 minutes, even though the place was quite full on a Thursday.
When it came to our food order, our waiter had to bare with me and my food allergies. However he managed it all, suggested nice alternatives and in the end our late night dinner was fantastic. We ordered, Sweet & Sour Chicken with rice, and hot prawns with steamed vegetables. The vegetables were actually ordered instead of the second potion of rice. When our food was delivered (15 minutes) I found out that the prawns already came with vegetables, and now I had an extra portion of steamed greens and beans a side. Well, he could have told us that before. But then, point for Mahiki’s for professional and successful up selling techniques and point for the food. Prawns and the great variety of vegetables tasted wonderful. The hot sauce, had just the right combination and balance of sweetness and heat. Also the Sweet & Sour Chicken was prepared very nicely and tasted fantastic.
The table was cleared, the bill was delivered once we asked for it and two customers left Mahiki’s (very tired) happy and satisfied.
The Good: When it comes to food Mahiki’s Chefs are obviously talented. So are their Bar Tenders, we know because we have tried their cocktails before. And everyone else from the hostess to the food runner and the waiter, all very efficient, friendly and humble. Orders are taken and orders are served. Very simple concept, however, all of this in a professional way and with a smile, this is when you find yourself in Mahiki’s.
The Bad: Our own fault that we arrived too late, and ordering one of their famous Thika Puka Puka, would have been a knock – out right away (before dinner).
We will come back again, Oh yes we will. We will come back and say “ALOHA” !
